National Marching Band Competition 2008

went to Stadium Merdeka..
went to support my favourite band..
the band i once belong to..
the band where i had so many sweet memories....
Nan Hwa Marching Band...

went there by LRT with 2 other friends..
phew.. i practically flew out of the lecture theatre back to vista komanwel C.. changed my clothes.. and flew... to the LRT station..
the LRT trip was.. i dunno.. quite crowded.. because it was filled with people heading back to their homes after a long day's work..

got to the stadium just in time.. about 7.00pm++
seems that most of the good seats were already taken..
so.. me & my friends.. ok.. i was leading them.. we "ceroboh" into the VIP area..
it's not like there were that much VIPs anyway.. so, what's wrong with us sitting there right?
well.. at 1st, it was just PheiSzee and me who dared to cross into the area..
KongBoon.. who was sitting there, because he's now different level than us already.. he's "coach" mah...
anyway, he turned around, spotted us.. and started to laugh at us..
what?? cannot meh? we just sit there, where there was nobody sitting only mah...
anyway, with us already in there, the others around got bold and followed our lead too.. OMG.. we're such rule breakers... ;P

the show started off with Catholic High School.. representing Selangor..
very clean and impressive music.. as usual..
color guards.. not bad..
basic marching and steps.. neat...
altogether quite an entertaining show to me.. though i heard someone commenting that the only thing they remembered of CHS's show was their 1st note..

ok... then, during the 2nd band performance, a group of IMU students, my seniors, aka David & gang.. they just got here..
anyway, there was still empty spaces where me & my friends were sittting, so i went to bring them there...
well, just when we reached our seats.. and while i was beckoning them to get into the area..
a group of people who was already there, but outside the area, took the chance and squeezed into the area.. just before my friends did..
haih... sorry ya.... the places was meant for u guys..
but, those people were just too quick... paiseh.. paiseh..
luckily they found seats too..

watched Victoria Institute's show..
they changed their uniforms again.. it's like the Nth time already.. they're really rich!!
quite impressed by their show.. their sound is more controlled... unlike the previous years..
really a big improvement to their tone quality.. they used to just blast uncontrollably..
color guards.. truly a great job.. being 1 of the earliest band in Malaysia, they've really got a firm basic in it, and experience really helps.. they got the Best Color Guard Award.. which is truly theirs..
noticed a couple of cute juniors color guards.. they look so cute.. when they're handling the flags.. which were taller than their heights...
VI seems different this year.. really a whole new image.. quite interesting..

skipped the next few teams to performed..
we went to find my juniors.. i missed them..
wished them luck and helped them get ready..
got the old time feeling back again..
i really missed that feeling..
the excitement.. the anticipation..
the nerves.. the frustration..
the team spirit... the glory..
it's all part and parcel of the experience.. of being in Marching Band..

back to the topic.. missed 3 band performances that i was looking forward to.. St Joseph, Kuching and Methodist Girls Secondary School, Pahang and Chung Hwa Wei Sin, Terenganu...
according to someone.. something funny happened?? i'll be waiting for that someone to tell me the details then..
anyway, Nan Hwa Marching Band was the last to perform..
and it was really a long wait before it was their turn..

the results was:

Gold
1st - Terengganu: SMJK Chung Hwa Wei Sin
2nd - Pahang: SMK (P) Methodist, Kuantan

hAppY bDay.. XinYing..

a whole bunch of my friends @ coursemates went to celebrate one of our member -- XinYing's birthday just now..
let's see.. 10 of us.. almost always inseparable.. we have: Me, WenYi, YahLee, Alice, XinYing, Hazel, ChuJin, LiangHin, WenWei, JiaHuan..
anyway.. 10 of us "future nutritionists/dietetians" who love food.. and who are constantly doing something crazy.. went to Sri Petaling for steamboat..

it was actually really nice..
the tomyam.. OMG.. absolutely delicious...
hahaha.. i don't know if others feel the same way, but steamboat just tastes better when u're eating it in a huge group of friends..
there wasn't many customers around.. i wonder why... maybe it's because today is monday.. and most people here don't go out for dinner on weekdays? or maybe we got into a 黑店?? hahaha.. joking.. joking..
anyway.. had almost the whole shop to ourselves.. so.. we were kinda like took over the shop.. making soooo much noise.. haih.. it's already a habit of ours.. to forget about anything else when we all get started on our "craziness"..
happy bday ya.. XinYing~~

++ Orientation Week ++ part 2..

Day 3..

was truly reluctant and having second, third and fourth thoughts whether i should go to the Station Games the seniors have planned for this afternoon.. knowing that it'll probably be the same thing all over again.. with the flour + ink + garlic water...
the day started with us waiting patiently in the Auditorium for 1/2 hour for the Students' Affair Department, SAD staff, whom was supposed to give us a briefing on PTPTN loan.. but no one showed up.. to our disappointment.. until it was time for the second briefing, which was on Insurance from Hong Leong Bank.. a SAD staff finally showed up, saying that they weren't informed of the schedule, and that they'll reschedule the PTPTN loan briefing later.. zzzz...
the day went on, with more briefings, which is getting more and more boring for us.. it's all we've been doing for few days now, sitting through briefings.. we had briefings by the Head of Departments, on Comunity & Heatlth Sciences Professionals, Study Management, and even a session by the seniors, about the Life & Study at IMU..
won't go on with the boring details about the briefings.. so i'll skip all that..
finally, it was time for the Station Games, walked back to Vista C with Rachel and a few of my group members.. still deciding whether or not, should we go..
bumped into out OO.. Ah Beh.. oh no!! and he was like.. "must come later ya.." hahaha.. avoided looking him in the eye.. because i was planning to skip it..
got home.. and sat there.. having last minute thoughts about the Station Games..
then, i gave in.. and went out for the Station Games.. wouldn't want to be blamed if my team loses because we purposely skipped it.. haih.. at the last minute only i 良心发现...
our OOs were like so glad to see us turn up, because only a few turned up at first.. the grand total of members who managed to turn up finally is 8 out of 13.. not bad...
the games was okay.. but we weren't really very energetic.. hahaha.. kinda like our spirits had been dampened.. but we did win at 4 stations and draw at 2 stations.. not bad at all.. considering that we were like.. not really into it..
however.. we did feel a lot happier, because we didn't get any flour on us.. wakaka... why? because we bargained with each of the station masters.. to get double or even triple the garlic water and ink.. but no flour on us!! yeah yeah~~
oh ya.. i forgot to mention, we started out signature hunt too.. which is basically a tradition, where we need to get signatures of seniors from different batches.. and signature of the orientation commitee.. got to do a series of "tasks" that the seniors set for us, to get their "precious" signatures.. which include.. singing, dancing, guess their ID numbers, guess their names and all kinds of stuff.. with the imagination that these people have.. the tasks we have to go through is basically just about anything..
oh ya.. we went to one of our OO's house.. LingWei's house to get the stuff for our costumes for the next day.. stayed there till about 1.00am++ zzzz... so damned exhausted....
Ben really surprised me.. for i thought he was the typical "banana" or "ABC" that probably wouldn't know any chinese.. but he ended up filled with "cold jokes" of chinese.. well.. undeniable.. his pronounciation in chinese is a bit weird and sometimes we can't get what he's saying.. but, i admit it.. his jokes was really....... COLD!!!!!

Day 4..

got up at 6.00am++.. really didn't feel like getting out of the bed.. but our group has a practice at 7.15am... after a long day yesterday.. and a tiring day the day before... my whole body ached with exhaustion.. however did i ever got to school with those freakin' torturing high heels.. i really don't know..
as i have anticipated.. only a few turned up for the practice.. which is.. basically... Ben, Erica, LuanMee, me, Yan, Rachel, YunRhou, XiaoJie...
it's like the other group members don't even exist... but i guess it's their choice.. to skip the orientation..

i wonder if our OOs secretly wished they've gotten another group.. because.. we were all like seriously inactive and lacked the enthusiasm.. other groups were like.. sooo... energetic and their spirits are really great.. our's.. hmm.... we're really linear... and maybe a bit on the dull side?? hahaha... let's just hope our OOs don't regret being our OOs..
we have a MTV night.. today.. and everyone was supposed to dress up based on a given theme.. and danced to a given MTV.. guess what.. my group's theme was... MARVEL SUPERHEROES.. zzzz... i have never even had a glance at those comics before.. that just show how "knowlegdeable" i am in this field... anyway.. we've picked the charactors that we'll have to dress up as.. here's the entire cast:

Ben -- Incredible Hulk
Erica -- Captain America
Yan -- Flash
Rachel-- Batman (Batwoman)
Me -- Wolverine (Wolverina)
LuanMee -- Wonder Woman
XiaoJie -- Superman (Superwoman)
YunRHou -- Spiderman (Spiderwoman)
and we had to dance to the MTV.. which is.. Put Your Head In The Game.. from High School Musical.. imagine that.. superheroes dribbling basketballs and doing all those moves...
we had to practice whenever we could round up the team.. during breaks...
had a whole line up of talks and briefings lined up for us for the entire day.. there was even an English Pilot Test.. which turn out to be.. when not so important anyway..
today was like a Counselling unit day or something.. the counsellor here.. Ms Nicole Chen... gave us briefing after briefing.. and i guess it has been somehow.. informative i guess...
the collection of student ID was also scheduled for today too.. but to my horror!!! i couldn't get mine...
apparently.. i need to hand in a blood report that indicated i'm HepatitisB free.. before i can claim my ID..
omg!!!!! and i distinctly remember the staff telling me through a phone call before, that it can be excluded.. because i told her i just got the immunisation last year... from the Health Ministry... now i'll have to get a blood test to get my ID..
anyway.. the MTV night was quite entertaining.. besides the hilarious performances from us freshies... the seniors also had their share of performing.. dancing, cheerleading, singing... i guess the people here are really multi-talented..
our performance went... haih... let just say it was entertaining-ly hilarious.. because it was disasterious... but i guess we'll live through it..

++ Orientation Week ++ part 1..

Day 1..

Stepped into IMU with a wondering heart, so this is where i'm going to spend my next 4 years...
all the unfamiliar faces filled my vision, friendly smiles exchanged..
followed the instructions to the Auditorium, which is situated at the 4th floor..
there, i first met a few of my coursemates..
we were given welcome addresses from a few of the IMU people..
was really inspired by the professionalism and ethics that they talked about..
also, we got to know the Deans, Heads of Departments and Lecturers there...
later, we went for a campus tour around IMU, still can't really get all the directions clear, but i guess i'll get to know my way around really soon..
got to know my first few friends + coursemates in IMU for the 1st time.. Alice, XinYing, Hazel, YahLee, WenYi, John..
registered ourselves during lunch break, and OMG.. we had to take the student ID picture there and then.. i hope i looked presentable in that picture.. or i'd have to bear it for the next 4 years..
then there was this Nightingale Pledge for the Nursing students.. and i was thinking, it's so unfair.. how come we Nutrition & Dietetics students don't get a pledge or ceremony of our own? i mean, even the Pharmacy students have their own White Coat Ceremony.. so why can't we?
okay.. then there was a photography session, and i got to see my the whole lot of my coursemates finally.. there was altogether 58 of us whom they refer as "Pioneer Students" for the Nutrition & Dietetics Programme..
during refreshments, i got to talk to a few of my lecturers, Ms Lee Ching Li and Prof. Winnie Chee.. really liked them a lot, and they left a good impression in my heart, for they were really knowledgeable and humble.. the way they talked, and how they really present themselves..
collected all the materials such as timetable, module guide, handbook, lab coat and temporary ID by 3.30pm.. but alas, just when we were looking forward to going home to our comfortable beds, we were told that we had to wait till like 5.00pm for the orientation activities that the seniors have planned for us..
it was a long long wait, because the seniors were still in class and we had absolutely nothing to do but to wait in the Dewan Canselor.. but i guess it was okay, because we grabbed the chance to get to know each other a little better...
finally, after a long wait, we were divided into our respective groups..
there 14 groups altogether for the orientation activities..
i was really impressed by the orientation concept that they planned out..
the introduction video they prepared is like really cool.. and hilarious too.. altogether a very entertaining video..
the orientation concept this year is basically like this:
there's 2 tribes living in the land of IMU.. the magic practicers--Fellowship and the fearless warriors--Scavenger.. both tribe long to rule over the other.. and there was constantly war between the 2 tribes..
group 1-7 are the Fellowships.. while group 8-14 are the Scavengers..
throughout the whole week, or performance will be the battle between the 2 tribes.. and among the groups too.. to determine the best group..
each group has a few OOs.. short for Orientation Officers.. my group got some BPharm students as our OOs.. AhBeh, WengFai, XuanHan, LingWei and XiaoHui..
there's like 10+ members in my group from various courses.. Ben, Erica, Alice, Me, Rachel, Yan, Michael, HawYee, Kelly, XiaoJie, LuanMee, XinLi & KaiShin..
guess what, our group name is-- FUYOH~~!! wakaka..
was really tired out when the day ended..

Day2..

start the day's agenda with a First Aid briefing, followed by an ICT briefing..
First Aid briefing was okay, basically it's about the first aid training that all of us will have to attend later during the semester..
ICT briefing.. hmm.. everyone is like in a total blurred situation, hahaha.. the briefing left us all in a wondering state.. because what they said is like something foreign to us or what.. i guess we'll get to understand it and apply it better as time goes by..
after lunch, it was a library briefing.. fell in love with the library at once.. it was like love at first sight.. wakaka.. love it's comfortable reading corner, discussion rooms, PCs, books and the soon to be available cafe..
then, there was a Mentor Mentee meeting.. hmm.. or should i say, mentor picking session, we had to draw a senior's name from a bunch of names in a box.. i got someone named.. David Ng.. i wonder who that is.. hahaha.. a good looking + talented guy maybe?
okay.. back to the agenda.. then we went for the Tutor Tutee meeting, my Tutor is Ms. Lee Ching Li, with 9 other tutees.. got to know my fellow tutees and tutor.. my fellow tutees are: Atiqah, SuMay, Queenie, Athena, WeiJie, Georgen, SiowJie, YeeLeng, Gege and ChunFong.. i hope we'll all be able to get along together.. seriously, i hope everything goes well..
rushed home to change for the Detective Game that the seniors planned..
and regretted it as soon as the games started..
we were like all waiting at the Bukit Jalil entrance.. until like really late.. because, apparently there was a miscommunication between the guards and the organizing commitee.. and the whole thing got delayed..

anyway, our team acquired two new members, Ignatius & YunRou..
as the games started, there's 7 stations altogether, and there was 2 teams from each tribe competing at each station..
we soon realised and automatically squat down next to the drain to receive "blessings" from the seniors every time we got to a station.. the "blessings", to our disgust, consists of large amounts of flour, garlic water and chinese calligraphy ink.. poured, dumped, smeared, scattered.. on us..
the games were quite okay.. but we got really REALLY filthy and we acquired quite an amount of sticky flour in our hairs.. ink smears on our hands and legs.. garlic and mud in our clothes.. and scratches here and there.. and some injuries too.. Ben fell down on his spine.. hope he recovers well..
when i got home, my housemate went.. "Oh my god..." at the sight of the state i'm in.. and "it's as bad as i remember it.." so my guess is, it'd always been a tradition in IMU for the seniors to welcome the juniors that way...
spent like almost 1 hour in the bathroom, getting the flour out of my hair.. eww... it's like the flour is free.. the way they'd been flinging it at us.. i hate flour!!!!! it was a nightmare trying to get it all out..
didn't feel like going out after that, and skipped the group discussion that i had planned on going earlier.. sorry guys..

a wHoLe nEw sTarT...

here i am, in a place where i'm not really familar with..
a room which still feels very distant to me..
it's a simple room, just enough for me, a bed, a closet, a desk, a book shelve.. and that's basically everything..

day 1 at IMU, really impressive, the people here are truly interesting people.. plus they're all really very friendly.. the way they do things here are very systematic and very effective..
about 200 new students started today in health sciences courses, ranging from pharmacy, biomedical science, pharmaceutical chemistry, nutrition and dietetics, nursing, psychology, biotechnology...
my course, Nutrition & Dietetics has about 50++ students..
registration went smoothly, hahaha.. i hope i looked good in my ID tag photo, if not.. i'll have to live with it for the next 4 years.. oh no!
sat through a whole day's briefings, truly tiring and exhausted..

one thing i noticed about IMU, there's a lot of renovation going on.. okay, it's very obvious, even a blind person can notice that..
but the basic infrastructure is really modern and everything, and the school itself is very student friendly, with tables and chairs set up in various areas around the school area for students to hang out or chill during breaks..
i love my school already, with its library, labs, IT labs, student lounge, muzium, gym...

had a long day today, and have a long day ahead of me tomorrow, so i guess i should go rest.. will post more in the next few days..

i'll be staying with 2 other girls.. both sem4 medic students from sarawak.. wow...
they seem quite friendly, and nice to get along with.. phew... luckily..

the apartment, has 3 rooms, 1 master bedroom, 1 middle room and a small room, which i'll be staying in..
1st impression of the apartment.. really neat and tidy..
guess what, i get to enjoy a splendid view of the golf course...
the apartment itself is furnished, complete with everything that i'll need..
well, almost everything.. coz.. it'll never be the same without my family beside me...

been busy with all the packing and preparing my stuff..
really crazy.. feel like just bringing everything i own there..
there's so much to pack...

gReaT nEws.. fiNalLy...

hooray~~ finally, a piece of good news..
guess what? i've found a room already..
after all that desperate looking around..
i decided on a middle room in Vista Komanwel Block C..
although it's a bit expensive.. well, it's not like i have much choice..
so, i'll take it anyway..

fully furnished, nice landlord.. it's all i can ask for right?
i mentioned "nice landlord", because.. the room is actually only available in Aug..
she was nice and kind enough to offer me to stay temporarily with her for the 2 weeks..
that solves my problem!! yay~~

now, with my accomodations problem solved..
it's time to move on to preparing my stuff..
haven't felt that energetic for a long time..
yay~~~ looking forward for my new life...
as a student in International Medical University..

* hey.. i might be on some kind of lucky stream.. coz, guess what? besides finally finding a room, someone just reload RM10 into my prepaid by mistake, which is totally crazy + out of the blue.. wakaka.. great mood now..

with all my friends already gone for their IPTAs, i'm absolutely dying of boredom..
nothing to do..
no place to go..
nobody to chat..

hmm.. still haven't found accomodations yet.. shit~~
my course starts on 14th July..
getting worried + desperate + frustrated..
aaaarrrrgggghhhhhhhh~~~~~~~~

lately i got used to juz sitting there doing nothing..
staring blankly at the monitor screen..
reading my old books..
watching old movies..
listening to old songs..

since when did i get to be so boring??
oh no.. i really need to get a life..
